* | cmstd: Modernize CMake system headersMarc Chevrier2019-09-201-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | Provide a standardized way to handle the C++ "standard" headers customized to be used with current CMake C++ standard constraints. Offer under directory `cm` headers which can be used as direct replacements of the standard ones. For example: #include <cm/string_view> can be used safely for CMake development in place of the `<string_view>` standard header. Fixes: #19491
* Source sweep: Replace cmExpandList with the shorter cmExpandedListSebastian Holtermann2019-08-231-4/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | This replaces the code pattern ``` std::vector<std::string> args; cmExpandList(valueStr, args, ...) ``` with ``` std::vector<std::string> args = cmExpandedList(valueStr, ...) ```
* Source code: Use cmExpandList instead of cmSystemTools::ExpandListArgumentSebastian Holtermann2019-08-141-2/+3

* cmMakefile: Let AddDefinition accept a value as cm::string_viewSebastian Holtermann2019-07-241-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This changes `cmMakefile::AddDefinition` to take a `cm::string_view` as value argument instead of a `const char *`. Benefits are: - `std::string` can be passed to `cmMakefile::AddDefinition` directly without the `c_str()` plus string length recomputation fallback. - Lengths of literals passed to `cmMakefile::AddDefinition` can be computed at compile time. In various sources uses of `cmMakefile::AddDefinition` are adapted to avoid `std::string::c_str` calls and the `std::string` is passed directly. Uses of `cmMakefile::AddDefinition`, where a `nullptr` `const char*` might be passed to `cmMakefile::AddDefinition` are extended with `nullptr` checks.

* ctest_submit: Add HTTPHEADER optionZack Galbreath2017-05-041-0/+16
| | | | | | | | | Allow CTest script writers to specify additional HTTP headers to be sent to CDash during submission. The motivating case for this feature is a corresponding change in CDash. This will allow projects to refuse submissions from any site not bearing a valid authentication token.
* ctest_submit: Allow RETRY_COUNT for CDASH_UPLOADZack Galbreath2017-01-201-14/+15
| | | | | | | | Teach the CDASH_UPLOAD signature of ctest_submit() to honor the RETRY_COUNT and RETRY_DELAY options. Also teach HttpRequest() to honor the default 120 second timeout for curl connections.
* Simplify CMake per-source license noticesBrad King2016-09-271-11/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Per-source copyright/license notice headers that spell out copyright holder names and years are hard to maintain and often out-of-date or plain wrong. Precise contributor information is already maintained automatically by the version control tool. Ultimately it is the receiver of a file who is responsible for determining its licensing status, and per-source notices are merely a convenience. Therefore it is simpler and more accurate for each source to have a generic notice of the license name and references to more detailed information on copyright holders and full license terms. Our `Copyright.txt` file now contains a list of Contributors whose names appeared source-level copyright notices. It also references version control history for more precise information. Therefore we no longer need to spell out the list of Contributors in each source file notice. Replace CMake per-source copyright/license notice headers with a short description of the license and links to `Copyright.txt` and online information available from "https://cmake.org/licensing". The online URL also handles cases of modules being copied out of our source into other projects, so we can drop our notices about replacing links with full license text. Run the `Utilities/Scripts/filter-notices.bash` script to perform the majority of the replacements mechanically. Manually fix up shebang lines and trailing newlines in a few files. Manually update the notices in a few files that the script does not handle.

* Remove unnecessary local copies.Daniel Pfeifer2016-05-261-4/+3
| | | | | | | Use clang-tidy's performance-unnecessary-copy-initialization checker. After applying the fix-its (which turns the copies into const&), revise the changes and see whether the copies can be removed entirely by using the original instead.
* Revise C++ coding style using clang-formatKitware Robot2016-05-161-139/+104
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Run the `Utilities/Scripts/clang-format.bash` script to update all our C++ code to a new style defined by `.clang-format`. Use `clang-format` version 3.8. * If you reached this commit for a line in `git blame`, re-run the blame operation starting at the parent of this commit to see older history for the content. * See the parent commit for instructions to rebase a change across this style transition commit.
* Remove `//------...` horizontal separator commentsBrad King2016-05-091-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modern editors provide plenty of ways to visually separate functions. Drop the explicit comments that previously served this purpose. Use the following command to automate the change: $ git ls-files -z -- \ "*.c" "*.cc" "*.cpp" "*.cxx" "*.h" "*.hh" "*.hpp" "*.hxx" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmCommandArgumentLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmCommandArgumentParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmDependsJavaLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmDependsJavaParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmExprLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmExprParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmFortranLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmFortranParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmListFileLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cm_sha2" | egrep -z -v "^Source/(kwsys|CursesDialog/form)/" | egrep -z -v "^Utilities/(KW|cm).*/" | xargs -0 sed -i '/^\(\/\/---*\|\/\*---*\*\/\)$/ {d;}' This avoids modifying third-party sources and generated sources.
* ctest_submit: Add QUIET optionZack Galbreath2015-02-231-10/+16
| | | | | Specifying this option prevents CTest from printing any non-error messages to the console for this call to ctest_submit().
* ctest_submit: Make CDASH_UPLOAD mode arguments more strictBrad King2015-01-201-36/+53
| | | | | Disallow mixing of arguments from different command signatures. Extend the RunCMake.CTestSubmit test to cover such error cases.
* ctest_submit: Add CDASH_UPLOAD mode to upload files to CDashBill Hoffman2015-01-201-2/+31
| | | | | | This adds support for the new cdash API where arbitrary files can be uploaded to the CDash server. This CDash API communicates via json files so the json parser jsoncpp was added to the Utilities directory.

* strings: Remove cmStdString referencesBen Boeckel2014-03-081-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | Casts from std::string -> cmStdString were high on the list of things taking up time. Avoid such implicit casts across function calls by just using std::string everywhere. The comment that the symbol name is too long is no longer relevant since modern debuggers alias the templates anyways and the size is a non-issue since the underlying methods are generated since it's inherited.

* Convert CMake to OSI-approved BSD LicenseBrad King2009-09-281-14/+9
| | | | | | | This converts the CMake license to a pure 3-clause OSI-approved BSD License. We drop the previous license clause requiring modified versions to be plainly marked. We also update the CMake copyright to cover the full development time range.
* ENH: Remove CTest public.kitware.com drop defaultBrad King2009-05-151-34/+6
| | | | | | | | | Previously CTest would drop dashboard submissions at public.kitware.com on the PublicDashboard project if there was no configuration. The server no longer supports forwarding to cdash.org, so there is no point in this default. Furthermore, there should be no default at all because it could leak information about proprietary projects that are not configured correctly.
