* Simplify CMake per-source license noticesBrad King2016-09-271-11/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Per-source copyright/license notice headers that spell out copyright holder names and years are hard to maintain and often out-of-date or plain wrong. Precise contributor information is already maintained automatically by the version control tool. Ultimately it is the receiver of a file who is responsible for determining its licensing status, and per-source notices are merely a convenience. Therefore it is simpler and more accurate for each source to have a generic notice of the license name and references to more detailed information on copyright holders and full license terms. Our `Copyright.txt` file now contains a list of Contributors whose names appeared source-level copyright notices. It also references version control history for more precise information. Therefore we no longer need to spell out the list of Contributors in each source file notice. Replace CMake per-source copyright/license notice headers with a short description of the license and links to `Copyright.txt` and online information available from "https://cmake.org/licensing". The online URL also handles cases of modules being copied out of our source into other projects, so we can drop our notices about replacing links with full license text. Run the `Utilities/Scripts/filter-notices.bash` script to perform the majority of the replacements mechanically. Manually fix up shebang lines and trailing newlines in a few files. Manually update the notices in a few files that the script does not handle.

* Revise C++ coding style using clang-formatKitware Robot2016-05-161-68/+49
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Run the `Utilities/Scripts/clang-format.bash` script to update all our C++ code to a new style defined by `.clang-format`. Use `clang-format` version 3.8. * If you reached this commit for a line in `git blame`, re-run the blame operation starting at the parent of this commit to see older history for the content. * See the parent commit for instructions to rebase a change across this style transition commit.
* Remove `//------...` horizontal separator commentsBrad King2016-05-091-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modern editors provide plenty of ways to visually separate functions. Drop the explicit comments that previously served this purpose. Use the following command to automate the change: $ git ls-files -z -- \ "*.c" "*.cc" "*.cpp" "*.cxx" "*.h" "*.hh" "*.hpp" "*.hxx" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmCommandArgumentLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmCommandArgumentParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmDependsJavaLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmDependsJavaParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmExprLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmExprParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmFortranLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmFortranParser(\.y|\.cxx|Tokens\.h)" | egrep -z -v "^Source/cmListFileLexer\." | egrep -z -v "^Source/cm_sha2" | egrep -z -v "^Source/(kwsys|CursesDialog/form)/" | egrep -z -v "^Utilities/(KW|cm).*/" | xargs -0 sed -i '/^\(\/\/---*\|\/\*---*\*\/\)$/ {d;}' This avoids modifying third-party sources and generated sources.

* build_command: Choose configuration consistently across signaturesBrad King2015-05-121-1/+1
| | | | | | Teach the legacy two-argument signature to use CMAKE_CONFIG_TYPE from the environment only if it is non-empty. This makes behavior consistent with the main signature.

* build_command: Return a "cmake --build" command-lineBrad King2013-11-151-25/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Re-implement the build_command() command to use "cmake --build" instead of generating a native build tool invocation directly. This command will internally invoke the proper native build tool. This avoids requiring cmGlobalGenerator::GenerateBuildCommand to produce a string so that it can be later refactored to produce a vector with no quoting or escaping. It will also allow us to later teach CMake to delay the decision about which build tool to invoke until after the project build system is generated to disk. For example, on Visual Studio 10 and above the preferred command-line tool is MSBuild, but we need to fall back to devenv if the .sln has Intel Fortran .vfproj files.
* Add projectDir parameter to GenerateBuildCommandPetr Kmoch2013-04-121-2/+2
| | | | | | | | Extend the cmGlobalGenerator::GenerateBuildCommand virtual method signature with a "projectDir" parameter specifying the top of the project build tree for which the build command will be generated. Populate it from call sites in cmGlobalGenerator::Build where a fully-generated build tree should be available.
* build_command: Fail early without CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM (#14005)Brad King2013-03-121-0/+8
| | | | | | If CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM is not set fail with an error message instead of crashing. Suggest calling project() or enable_language() first to ensure that CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM is set.
* Fix issue #2336 - honor the -C arg to ctest. Honor it for all stages of ↵David Cole2009-12-041-3/+112
| | | | running -D dashboards from the command line and running ctest_configure, ctest_build and ctest_test commands in -S scripts. Also, allow a script to change it by setting the CTEST_CONFIGURATION_TYPE variable: allows for multiple configuration build/test cycles within one script. Add a new signature for the cmake command build_command that accepts CONFIGURATION as one argument. The original build_command signature is still there, but now marked as deprecated in the documentation. Of course... also add CTestConfig tests to verify that -C is honored for -D dashboards and -S scripts.
* Convert CMake to OSI-approved BSD LicenseBrad King2009-09-281-14/+9
| | | | | | | This converts the CMake license to a pure 3-clause OSI-approved BSD License. We drop the previous license clause requiring modified versions to be plainly marked. We also update the CMake copyright to cover the full development time range.
