| | | | Fixes: #20345
* Revise include order using clang-format-6.0Kitware Robot2019-10-011-3/+3
| | | | | Run the `clang-format.bash` script to update our C and C++ code to a new include order `.clang-format`. Use `clang-format` version 6.0.

* Track backtraces in target dependencies internallyBrad King2018-10-181-0/+3
| | | | | Carry backtraces on target dependency edges to refer to the line in project code that caused the edge to appear.
* Fix dependency propagation through same-name imported targetsBrad King2018-09-071-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | If two imported targets in different directories have the same name we should still be able to propagate transitive link dependencies from both. Fix the target and link dependency analyzers to de-duplicate targets using target pointers rather than target names since the pointers will not be duplicated even if the names are. Issue: #18345
* cmComputeTargetDepends: Avoid nested loops over configurationsBrad King2017-05-181-0/+1
| | | | | `AddInterfaceDepends` is only called from `CollectTargetDepends` inside our loop over all configurations so it doesn't need its own such loop.
* Use quotes for non-system includesDaniel Pfeifer2017-04-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Automate with: git grep -l '#include <cm_' -- Source \ | xargs sed -i 's/#include <\(cm_.*\)>/#include "\1"/g' git grep -l '#include <cmsys/' -- Source \ | xargs sed -i 's/#include <\(cmsys\/.*\)>/#include "\1"/g' git grep -l '#include <cm[A-Z]' -- Source \ | xargs sed -i 's/#include <\(cm[A-Z].*\)>/#include "\1"/g'
* Simplify CMake per-source license noticesBrad King2016-09-271-11/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Per-source copyright/license notice headers that spell out copyright holder names and years are hard to maintain and often out-of-date or plain wrong. Precise contributor information is already maintained automatically by the version control tool. Ultimately it is the receiver of a file who is responsible for determining its licensing status, and per-source notices are merely a convenience. Therefore it is simpler and more accurate for each source to have a generic notice of the license name and references to more detailed information on copyright holders and full license terms. Our `Copyright.txt` file now contains a list of Contributors whose names appeared source-level copyright notices. It also references version control history for more precise information. Therefore we no longer need to spell out the list of Contributors in each source file notice. Replace CMake per-source copyright/license notice headers with a short description of the license and links to `Copyright.txt` and online information available from "https://cmake.org/licensing". The online URL also handles cases of modules being copied out of our source into other projects, so we can drop our notices about replacing links with full license text. Run the `Utilities/Scripts/filter-notices.bash` script to perform the majority of the replacements mechanically. Manually fix up shebang lines and trailing newlines in a few files. Manually update the notices in a few files that the script does not handle.

* Revise C++ coding style using clang-formatKitware Robot2016-05-161-8/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Run the `Utilities/Scripts/clang-format.bash` script to update all our C++ code to a new style defined by `.clang-format`. Use `clang-format` version 3.8. * If you reached this commit for a line in `git blame`, re-run the blame operation starting at the parent of this commit to see older history for the content. * See the parent commit for instructions to rebase a change across this style transition commit.

* cmTarget: Lookup targets in LinkInterface and LinkImplementationBrad King2014-06-231-2/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Instead of storing just the string names in these structures, lookup any target associated with each item and store its cmTarget pointer. Use the cmLinkItem class to hold the name and pointer together. Update client sites to use the pre-stored lookup result instead of looking up the target name again. Create a cmTarget::LookupLinkItems helper method to handle the lookup. Since lookups are now moving from cmComputeLinkDepends::AddLinkEntries to cmTarget::LookupLinkItems, move use of CheckCMP0004 to the latter. This drops use of CheckCMP0004 from entries added for _LIB_DEPENDS variables by cmComputeLinkDepends::AddVarLinkEntries, but I do not think that use was intentional originally anyway.
* cmComputeTargetDepends: Remove unused 'linking' argumentBrad King2014-06-231-1/+1
| | | | | The AddInterfaceDepends method is never called with a non-true value for its 'linking' argument. Drop it.

* strings: Remove cmStdString referencesBen Boeckel2014-03-081-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Casts from std::string -> cmStdString were high on the list of things taking up time. Avoid such implicit casts across function calls by just using std::string everywhere. The comment that the symbol name is too long is no longer relevant since modern debuggers alias the templates anyways and the size is a non-issue since the underlying methods are generated since it's inherited.

* Allow add_dependencies() on imported targets (#10395)Brad King2010-11-191-0/+1
| | | | | | | Imported targets do not themselves build, but we can follow dependencies through them to find real targets. This allows imported targets to depend on custom targets that provide the underlying files at build time.
* Record edge type in global dependency graphBrad King2010-11-181-1/+2
| | | | Each inter-target dependency may be a 'link' or 'util' dependency.
* Honor strong intra-component target dependenciesBrad King2010-08-251-2/+8
| | | | | | | | Strong dependencies (created by add_dependencies) must be honored when linearizing a strongly-connected component of the target dependency graph. The initial graph edges have strong/weak labels and can contain cycles that do not consist exclusively of strong edges. The final graph never contains cycles so all edges can be strong.

* Convert CMake to OSI-approved BSD LicenseBrad King2009-09-281-14/+9
| | | | | | | This converts the CMake license to a pure 3-clause OSI-approved BSD License. We drop the previous license clause requiring modified versions to be plainly marked. We also update the CMake copyright to cover the full development time range.
* Create GLOBAL_DEPENDS_NO_CYCLES propertyBrad King2009-08-241-0/+1
| | | | | This global property disallows cycles in the inter-target dependency graph even among STATIC libraries. See issue #9444.
* BUG: Avoid bogus dependency on executable targetsBrad King2008-08-061-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | When an executable target within the project is named in target_link_libraries for another target, but the executable does not have the ENABLE_EXPORTS property set, then the executable cannot really be linked. This is probably a case where the user intends to link to a third-party library that happens to have the same name as an executable target in the project (or else will get an error at build time). We need to avoid making the other target depend on the executable target incorrectly, since the executable may actually want to link to that target and this is not a circular depenency.
* ENH: Improve link line generation for static library cycles.Brad King2008-02-071-28/+14
| | | | | | | | | - Move Tarjan algorithm from cmComputeTargetDepends into its own class cmComputeComponentGraph - Use cmComputeComponentGraph to identify the component DAG of link dependencies in cmComputeLinkDepends - Emit non-trivial component members more than once but always in a contiguous group on the link line
* ENH: Analyze inter-target dependencies to safely fix cyclesBrad King2008-02-061-0/+90
- Cycles may be formed among static libraries - Native build system should not have cycles in target deps - Create cmComputeTargetDepends to analyze dependencies - Identify conneced components and use them to fix deps - Diagnose cycles containing non-STATIC targets - Add debug mode property GLOBAL_DEPENDS_DEBUG_MODE - Use results in cmGlobalGenerator as target direct depends
