* Use C++11 override instead of CM_OVERRIDEBrad King2017-09-151-29/+23
| | | | | | | | We now require C++11 support including `override`. Drop use of the old compatibility macro. Convert references as follows: git grep -l CM_OVERRIDE -- '*.h' '*.hxx' '*.cxx' | xargs sed -i 's/CM_OVERRIDE/override/g'
* IWYU: Mark cmConfigure.h with pragma: keepDaniel Pfeifer2017-08-261-1/+1
| | | | Also remove `#include "cmConfigure.h"` from most source files.
* Use quotes for non-system includesDaniel Pfeifer2017-04-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Automate with: git grep -l '#include <cm_' -- Source \ | xargs sed -i 's/#include <\(cm_.*\)>/#include "\1"/g' git grep -l '#include <cmsys/' -- Source \ | xargs sed -i 's/#include <\(cmsys\/.*\)>/#include "\1"/g' git grep -l '#include <cm[A-Z]' -- Source \ | xargs sed -i 's/#include <\(cm[A-Z].*\)>/#include "\1"/g'
* Add policy CMP0069 to enforce INTERPROCEDURAL_OPTIMIZATIONRuslan Baratov2017-03-301-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | Previously the `INTERPROCEDURAL_OPTIMIZATION` target property was honored only for the Intel compiler on Linux and otherwise ignored. In order to add support for more compilers incrementally without changing behavior in the future, add a new policy whose NEW behavior enforces the `INTERPROCEDURAL_OPTIMIZATION` property. Add flags for supported compilers and otherwise produce an error.

* Simplify CMake per-source license noticesBrad King2016-09-271-11/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Per-source copyright/license notice headers that spell out copyright holder names and years are hard to maintain and often out-of-date or plain wrong. Precise contributor information is already maintained automatically by the version control tool. Ultimately it is the receiver of a file who is responsible for determining its licensing status, and per-source notices are merely a convenience. Therefore it is simpler and more accurate for each source to have a generic notice of the license name and references to more detailed information on copyright holders and full license terms. Our `Copyright.txt` file now contains a list of Contributors whose names appeared source-level copyright notices. It also references version control history for more precise information. Therefore we no longer need to spell out the list of Contributors in each source file notice. Replace CMake per-source copyright/license notice headers with a short description of the license and links to `Copyright.txt` and online information available from "https://cmake.org/licensing". The online URL also handles cases of modules being copied out of our source into other projects, so we can drop our notices about replacing links with full license text. Run the `Utilities/Scripts/filter-notices.bash` script to perform the majority of the replacements mechanically. Manually fix up shebang lines and trailing newlines in a few files. Manually update the notices in a few files that the script does not handle.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | Run the `Utilities/Scripts/clang-format.bash` script to update all our C++ code to a new style defined by `.clang-format`. Use `clang-format` version 3.8. * If you reached this commit for a line in `git blame`, re-run the blame operation starting at the parent of this commit to see older history for the content. * See the parent commit for instructions to rebase a change across this style transition commit.
* Source: Stabilize include orderBrad King2016-04-291-0/+1
| | | | | Each source file has a logical first include file. Include it in an isolated block so that tools that sort includes do not move them.
* cmake-gui: Add option to specify generator toolsetRobert Dailey2015-11-171-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | The -T parameter to CMake may now be specified through cmake-gui via a new text field in the first-time configure wizard (below the generator chooser). The generator factories specify whether or not they support toolsets. This information is propagated to the Qt code and used to determine if the selected generator should also display the optional Toolset widgets.

* cmLocalGenerator: Require a valid cmState::Snapshot in the ctor.Stephen Kelly2015-05-271-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Refactor the local generator creation API to accept a cmState::Snapshot. Adjust MakeLocalGenerator to use the 'current' snapshot in cases where there is no parent. Create the snapshot for subdirectories in cmMakefile::AddSubdirectory. This means that snapshots are now created at the point of extending the tree, as appropriate, and independently of the cmLocalGenerator and cmMakefile they represent the state for.

| | | | | | | Pass the parent though cmGlobalGenerator::CreateLocalGenerator. This will make it easy to initialize state scopes independent of cmMakefile.
* Makefile: Tell GNU make to delete rule outputs on error (#15474)Brad King2015-03-301-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add .DELETE_ON_ERROR to the "build.make" files that contain the actual build rules that generate files. This tells GNU make to delete the output of a rule if the recipe modifies the output but returns failure. This is particularly useful for custom commands that use shell redirection to produce a file. Do not add .DELETE_ON_ERROR for Borland or Watcom make tools because they may not tolerate it and would not honor it anyway. Other make tools that do not understand .DELETE_ON_ERROR will not be hurt. * cmake: Teach --build to honor CMAKE_VERBOSE_MAKEFILE for NinjaGregor Jasny2015-02-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | The Ninja build system does not support a in-file verbositiy switch. Instead teach 'cmake --build' to extract the CMAKE_VERBOSE_MAKEFILE setting and pass it as an optional '-v' argument to Ninja. This can serve as a reasonable fallback. * strings: Remove cmStdString referencesBen Boeckel2014-03-081-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Casts from std::string -> cmStdString were high on the list of things taking up time. Avoid such implicit casts across function calls by just using std::string everywhere. The comment that the symbol name is too long is no longer relevant since modern debuggers alias the templates anyways and the size is a non-issue since the underlying methods are generated since it's inherited.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add the .NOTPARALLEL target to each local Makefile command-line interface entry point file so that even with -j we launch only one "make -f Makefile2" at a time. The actual build rules in Makefile2 and lower will still run in parallel. Do not add .NOTPARALLEL for Borland or Watcom make tools because they do not tolerate it. Other make tools that do not understand .NOTPARALLEL will not be hurt. Suggested-by: Robert Luberda <robert-cmake@debian.org>
