If the type is the same, but not registered, the returned string could be
null (or empty if a empty string was registered)
In that case, QVariant compare() function would access invalid memory.
Protect against that case. qstrcmp returns 0 if 0 is given as a parametter.

simple type
QVariant v = QColor(Qt::red); v.setValue(1000); Would produce a
variant with garbage. the destructor of QColor would not be called,
and the 1000 would be in the QVariant::PrivateShared, while most
of the QVariant code assume that numbers are dirrectly in the
QVariant::Data union

When the variant is invalid the shared is not destroyed.

Constructing a variant of a pointer type was previously quite slow:
QVariant had no information it was a pointer. It had to create a
QVariant::PrivateShared, ask the QMetaType for a constructor (slow as it
involve locking mutextes) and allocate a pointer.
By detecting a pointer in qVariantFromValue, we can store the pointer
value dirrectly in the Variant union. We then avoid 2 allocations,
and the expensive locking in QMetaType::construct

If it was shared and you then set it back to an int type,
it is still marked as shared,. This might even lead to crashes.
The patch was sent through gitorious by Jürgen Starek.

In Symbian qreal is defined as float. And in qround64 the parameter
was qreal. This qround64 is used (only) in qvariant::convert, when
converting from double to e.g. int. This caused overflow bug for some
(close to max int) values, because in convert chain double value
was casted to float.
