I was slightly helpful at the end. :) Following are the log messages from the io-c branch: Merged revisions 68683-68685,68687-68689,68693,68704,68741-68743,68745,68747,68752-68754,68756,68758,68812,68816-68817,68820-68822,68824-68825,68828,68876-68877,69037,69044,69104,69115,69194,69626-69629,69636,69638,69641-69642,69644-69654,69656-69661,69671,69677,69812-69815,69817,69827-69830,69839,69841-69845,69848,69850,69852,69854,69860,69865-69866,69868,69872-69873,69885,69888,69891-69893,69911,69913-69916,69963,70033,70035,70038,70041-70048,70067-70070,70075,70112,70133,70135,70140 via svnmerge from svn+ssh://pythondev@svn.python.org/python/branches/io-c ........ r68683 | antoine.pitrou | 2009-01-17 17:13:48 -0600 (Sat, 17 Jan 2009) | 3 lines Merge in changes from the io-c sandbox. A long description of the two competing problems is in the bug report (one old, one recently introduced trying to fix the old one). In short: buffer data during socket._fileobject.read() and readlines() within a cStringIO object instead of a [] of str()s returned from the recv() call. This prevents excessive memory use due to the size parameter being passed to recv() being grossly larger than the actual size of the data returned *and* prevents excessive cpu usage due to looping in python calling recv() with a very tiny size value if min() is used as the previous memory-use bug "fix" did. It also documents what the socket._fileobject._rbufsize member is actually used for. This is a candidate for back porting to 2.5. ................ r62636 | mark.hammond | 2008-05-02 14:48:15 +0200 (Fri, 02 May 2008) | 2 lines #2581: Vista UAC/elevation support for bdist_wininst ................ r62638 | facundo.batista | 2008-05-02 19:39:00 +0200 (Fri, 02 May 2008) | 3 lines Fixed some test structures. This avoids the common case of something like 'NUMBER(10)' not being parsed as 'NUMBER', like expected. Also corrected the docs about converter names being case-sensitive. They aren't any longer. ................ r62703 | georg.brandl | 2008-05-04 17:45:05 +0200 (Sun, 04 May 2008) | 2 lines #2757: Remove spare newline. ................ r62711 | benjamin.peterson | 2008-05-04 21:10:02 +0200 (Sun, 04 May 2008) | 2 lines Fix typo in bugs.rst ................

* Always try to delete the data file before and after the test.Neal Norwitz2008-03-241-0/+4
| | | | | This will hopefully avoid spurious failures if the file doesn't have the proper permissions to write for some reason.

* In TextIOWrapper:Ka-Ping Yee2008-03-181-5/+33
| | | | | | | | - Switch from consuming _decoded_text to advancing an offset into it. - Fix readline() interaction with seek/tell. - Fix readline() handling of 'limit' argument. Add tests for seek/tell after readline().
* Make TextIOWrapper's seek/tell work properly with stateful decoders;Ka-Ping Yee2008-03-181-0/+171
| | | | | | | | document and rename things to make seek/tell workings a little clearer. Add a weird decoder for testing TextIOWrapper's seek/tell methods. Document the getstate/setstate protocol conventions for IncrementalDecoders.

* Issue1395: Universal mode used to duplicate newlines when using read(1).Amaury Forgeot d'Arc2007-11-191-8/+120
| | | | | | | | | | "Universal newline" is now an incremental decoder wrapping the initial one, with its own additional buffer (if '\r' is seen at the end of the input). A decoder allows the tell() funtion to record the state of the translation. This also simplifies the readline() process. Now test_netrc passes on Windows, as well as many new tests in test_io.py

* Merging the py3k-pep3137 branch back into the py3k branch.Guido van Rossum2007-11-061-4/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | No detailed change log; just check out the change log for the py3k-pep3137 branch. The most obvious changes: - str8 renamed to bytes (PyString at the C level); - bytes renamed to buffer (PyBytes at the C level); - PyString and PyUnicode are no longer compatible. I.e. we now have an immutable bytes type and a mutable bytes type. The behavior of PyString was modified quite a bit, to make it more bytes-like. Some changes are still on the to-do list.
* Patch 1329 (partial) by Christian Heimes.Guido van Rossum2007-10-301-0/+3
| | | | | | | | Add a closefd flag to open() which can be set to False to prevent closing the file descriptor when close() is called or when the object is destroyed. Useful to ensure that sys.std{in,out,err} keep their file descriptors open when Python is uninitialized. (This was always a feature in 2.x, it just wasn't implemented in 3.0 yet.)
* Patch #1303: Adapt str8 constructor to bytes (now buffer) one.Georg Brandl2007-10-241-1/+1
|
* Breaking ground for PEP 3137 implementation:Guido van Rossum2007-10-081-1/+1
| | | | | | Get rid of buffer(). Use memoryview() in its place where possible. In a few places, do things a bit different, because memoryview() can't slice (yet).
* Changes in anticipation of stricter str vs. bytes enforcement.Guido van Rossum2007-08-271-1/+1

* Changes to io.py and socket.py by Christian Heimes.Guido van Rossum2007-08-271-1/+16
| | | | | | | | | - Replace all asserts by ValuleErrors or TypeErrors as appropriate. - Add _checkReadable, _checkWritable methods; these check self.closed too. - Add a test that everything exported by io.py exists, and is either an exception or an IOBase instance (except for the open function). - Default buffering to 1 if isatty() (I had to tweak this to enforce the *default* bit -- GvR).
