* bpo-42388: Fix subprocess.check_output input=None when text=True (GH-23467)Miss Islington (bot)2020-12-251-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | When the modern text= spelling of the universal_newlines= parameter was added for Python 3.7, check_output's special case around input=None was overlooked. So it behaved differently with universal_newlines=True vs text=True. This reconciles the behavior to be consistent and adds a test to guarantee it. Also clarifies the existing check_output documentation. * closes bpo-42726: gdb libpython: InstanceProxy support for py3 (GH-23912)Miss Islington (bot)2020-12-241-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | On Fedora 31 gdb is using python 3.7.9, calling `proxyval` on an instance with a dictionary fails because of the `dict.iteritems` usage. This PR changes the code to be compatible with py2 and py3. This changed seemed small enough to not need an issue and news blurb, if one is required please let me know. | | | | | | | | | | | | | configure (GH-23708) Now all platforms use a value for the "EXT_SUFFIX" build variable derived from SOABI (for instance in FreeBSD, "EXT_SUFFIX" is now ".cpython-310d.so" instead of ".so"). * bpo-42644: Validate values in logging.disable() (GH-23786)Miss Islington (bot)2020-12-161-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * bpo-42644: Validate values in logging.disable() Technically make the value of manager a property that checks and convert values assigned to it properly. This has the side effect of making `logging.disable` also accept strings representing the various level of warnings. We want to validate the type of the disable attribute at assignment time, as it is later compared to other levels when emitting warnings and would generate a `TypeError: '>=' not supported between ....` in a different part of the code base, which can make it difficult to track down. When assigned an incorrect value; it will raise a TypeError when the wrong type, or ValueError if an invalid str. * bpo-36541: Add lib2to3 grammar PEP-570 pos-only arg parsing (GH-23759)Miss Islington (bot)2020-12-141-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | Add positional only args support to lib2to3 pgen2. This adds 3.8's PEP-570 support to lib2to3's pgen2. lib2to3, while being deprecated is still used by things to parse all versions of Python code today. We need it to support parsing modern 3.8 and 3.9 constructs. Also add tests for complex *expr and **expr's. * bpo-40791: Make compare_digest more constant-time. (GH-20444)Miss Islington (bot)2020-11-211-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | * bpo-40791: Make compare_digest more constant-time. The existing volatile `left`/`right` pointers guarantee that the reads will all occur, but does not guarantee that they will be _used_. So a compiler can still short-circuit the loop, saving e.g. the overhead of doing the xors and especially the overhead of the data dependency between `result` and the reads. That would change performance depending on where the first unequal byte occurs. This change removes that optimization. (This is change GH-1 from https://bugs.python.org/issue40791 .)
