* gh-96269: static and shared ext need different deps (#96316)Christian Heimes2022-11-161-4/+7
|
* gh-96269: Fix build dependency on AIX (GH-96304)Christian Heimes2022-08-261-1/+1
|
* gh-94404: Use module CFLAGS before PY_STDMODULE_CFLAGS (GH-94413)Christian Heimes2022-06-291-3/+4
| | | | ``PY_STDMODULE_CFLAGS`` may contain include directories with system headers. This can break compiling with built-in libmpdec.
* gh-94404: makesetup: use correct CFLAGS and macOS workaround (GH-94405)Christian Heimes2022-06-291-5/+11
| | | | ``makesetup`` now works around an issue with sed on macOS and uses correct CFLAGS for object files that end up in a shared extension.
* bpo-46023: makesetup: skip all duplicate modules (GH-32234)Christian Heimes2022-04-011-6/+12

* bpo-46023: Skip build if module is marked as DISABLED (GH-30100)Christian Heimes2021-12-141-1/+4

* bpo-45573: Introduce extension module flags in Makefile (GH-29594)Christian Heimes2021-11-181-2/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ``configure`` now uses a standardized format to forward state, compiler flags, and linker flags to ``Makefile``, ``setup.py``, and ``Modules/Setup``. ``makesetup`` use the new variables by default if a module line does not contain any compiler or linker flags. ``setup.py`` has a new function ``addext()``. For a module ``egg``, configure adds: * ``MODULE_EGG`` with value yes, missing, disabled, or n/a * ``MODULE_EGG_CFLAGS`` * ``MODULE_EGG_LDFLAGS`` ``Makefile.pre.in`` may also provide ``MODULE_EGG_DEPS`` that lists dependencies such as header files and static libs. Signed-off-by: Christian Heimes <christian@python.org>
* bpo-45798: Move _decimal build setup into configure (GH-29541)Christian Heimes2021-11-131-0/+5
| | | | | | | Settings for :mod:`decimal` internal C extension are now detected by :program:`configure`. The bundled `libmpdec` library is built in ``Makefile``. Signed-off-by: Christian Heimes <christian@python.org>
* bpo-45548: Some test modules must be built as shared libs (GH-29268)Christian Heimes2021-10-291-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Some test cases don't work when test modules are static extensions. Add dependency on Modules/config.c to trigger a rebuild whenever a module build type is changed. ``makesetup`` puts shared extensions into ``Modules/`` directory. Create symlinks from pybuilddir so the extensions can be imported. Note: It is not possible to use the content of pybuilddir.txt as a build target. Makefile evaluates target variables in the first pass. The pybuilddir.txt file does not exist at that point.
* bpo-45548: makesetup improvements (GH-29225)Christian Heimes2021-10-261-2/+11
| | | | | | | * record which modules are build as shared extensions * put object files in same directory as source files * remove dependency on deleted _math.c Signed-off-by: Christian Heimes <christian@python.org>
* bpo-45548: FreeBSD doesn't like auto vars in makesetup (GH-29216)Christian Heimes2021-10-251-2/+2
|
* bpo-45595: Make extensions depend on header files (GH-29198)Christian Heimes2021-10-251-2/+3
| | | | | | ``setup.py`` and ``makesetup`` now track build dependencies on all Python header files and module specific header files. Signed-off-by: Christian Heimes <christian@python.org>
* bpo-45571: use PY_CFLAGS_NODIST for shared Modules/Setup (GH-29161)Christian Heimes2021-10-221-1/+1

* bpo-35081: Add pycore_ prefix to internal header files (GH-10263)Victor Stinner2018-10-311-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * Rename Include/internal/ header files: * pyatomic.h -> pycore_atomic.h * ceval.h -> pycore_ceval.h * condvar.h -> pycore_condvar.h * context.h -> pycore_context.h * pygetopt.h -> pycore_getopt.h * gil.h -> pycore_gil.h * hamt.h -> pycore_hamt.h * hash.h -> pycore_hash.h * mem.h -> pycore_mem.h * pystate.h -> pycore_state.h * warnings.h -> pycore_warnings.h * PCbuild project, Makefile.pre.in, Modules/Setup: add the Include/internal/ directory to the search paths of header files. * Update includes. For example, replace #include "internal/mem.h" with #include "pycore_mem.h".
* bpo-32430: Rename Modules/Setup.dist to Modules/Setup (GH-8229)Antoine Pitrou2018-07-161-1/+1
| | | | | bpo-32430: Rename Modules/Setup.dist to Modules/Setup Remove the necessity to copy the former manually to the latter when updating the local source tree.
* bpo-32232: by default, Setup modules are no longer built with ↵xdegaye2018-04-201-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | -DPy_BUILD_CORE (GH-6489) Setup modules are no longer built with -DPy_BUILD_CORE by default, as using that flag may now require including additional internal-only header files. Instead, only the modules that specifically need it use that setting.
* bpo-20210: Support the *disabled* marker in Setup files (GH-132)xdegaye2017-05-271-4/+17
| | | | | Extension modules listed after the *disabled* marker are not built at all, neither by the Makefile nor by setup.py.

* Issue #9189: Allow users to set $CFLAGS, $CPPFLAGS, and $LDFLAGS when runningJeffrey Yasskin2010-07-091-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | configure to append to Python's default values for those variables, and similarly allow users to set $XXFLAGS on the make command line to append to the values set by configure. In the makefile, this renames the variables that used to be $XXFLAGS to $PY_XXFLAGS, and renames the old $PY_CFLAGS to $PY_CORE_CFLAGS. To compensate, sysconfig now aliases $XXFLAGS=$PY_XXFLAGS so that scripts using it keep working. I see that as the right interface, not a backward-compatibility hack, since these are logically the $XXFLAGS variables; we just use a different name in the makefile to deal with make's semantics.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | But IMHO, this problem really reveals an annoyance in Python's makesetup. makesetup puts the global include directories "$(INCLUDEPY) $(EXECINCLUDEPY)" in front of the directories defined by the module in Setup. Therefore global (potentially older) header files are preferred over the ones set by the module, which makes it hard to compile new versions of modules when the old versions are installed. AFAIK, the other way around is common practice for most other software. This patch to makesetup would be an potential fix for this problem, though I don't know if it breaks anything else.
