[svn-r13039] Purpose: Add test

Description:
    Added test_string_attr to partially test recent fix of Attribute::read.

Platforms tested:
    AIX 5.1 (copper)
    Linux 2.6 (kagiso)
    SunOS 5.8 64-bit (sol)
