[svn-r2635] Purpose:
Portability fix
Description:
Non-portable GNU-specific features were used.
Solution:
Replaced GNU-specific features with more portable (but more difficult to
maintain) forms of the features.
Platforms tested:
FresBSD 4.1.1 (hawkwind)
