[svn-r15836] Fixed a hole in the input checking for the metada cache.

Tested on Phoenix (serial)
          Kagiso  (parallel)
	  Linew   (serial)

There were updates during my testing, but I decided to check in 
regarless without further testing as my change is very localized.
