Merge fix for HDFFV-7991 from trunk to 1.18
[svn-r30308] Fix for HDFFV-7991--error when copying dataset with attribute which is a compound datatype consisting of
a variable length string.
Tested on mayll, platypus, osx1010test, emu, kituo, kite, quail, moohan, ostrich.
