| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Autotool Upgrade / Libtool Bug Fix Description: Updated autotools referenced in bin/reconfigure as follows: Autoconf 2.64 --> Autoconf 2.65 Automake 1.11 --> Automake 1.11.1 Libtool 2.2.6a --> Libtool 2.2.6b-mcg The referenced libtool version is a custom version of 2.2.6b. It has been tweaked to fix a bug in libtool that occurs when using PGI 10.0 compilers. A check incorrectly categorizes the C++ compiler as version 1.0 instead of 10.0, and the link line is subsequently set up incorrectly and fails to compile. A patch has been made available and will be included in the next release of libtool, but in the meantime I've applied the patch to a custom installation as indicated above. This bin/reconfigure now references the custom installation, and the resulting configure script will correctly categorize the PGI 10.0 C++ compiler. Ran bin/reconfigure to regenerate configure and makefiles. Tested: jam and amani with PGI 10.0 compilers. h5committest

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Updating autotools Description: Bring revisions 17345 and 17357 from trunk to 1.8, specifically: - Automake upgraded to 1.11 - Autoconf upgraded to 2.64 - bin/reconfigure script edited to use new versions (on jam), and run to generate new configure script and Makefile.in's. - configure.in script edited to add "_cv_" to all AC_CACHE_VAL strings (in order to comply with new autoconf standard). - bin/install-sh script replaced with new version as provided by automake. Tested: - All issues on trunk were resolved, so only tested on jam and linew. Any other outliers should be caught by daily tests.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Description: 1) configure now sets LD_LIBRARY_PATH before checking for presence of SZIP encoder, so user does not need to set this. The path is then saved and sent to Makefiles, and used when "make check-install" is invoked, so user doesn't need to set this manually. 2) Upgraded libtool to version 2.2.6a 3) Rearranged tools build order as h5dump depends on existence of h5diff and h5import. Since h5dump is a sister directory as opposed to a parent of either, it doesn't know about the build rules of these tools, so setting any sort of explicit dependency confuses automake as it won't know how to build the tools. Instead, setting CONFIG = ordered forces an in-order traversal of each tools subdirectory. (without it will also traverse in order by default, but this should prevent gmake's -j option from jumping ahead as well). 'make check install' should now be able to be invoked after 'configure' without causing a dependency failure. 4) Removed H5_HAVE_LARGE_HSIZET macro from vms/src/h5pubconf.h, as this macro has now been out of the code for some time. (vms pubconf needs to be updated manually, which is why it was still hanging around). Tested: kagiso, smirom, liberty Note: h5diff looks to be causing failures in h5copy and h5dump tools tests, though these were present before any of my changes. My changes only affect build order and configuration setup, and shouldn't prevent fixes for these failures coming in after this checkin. Other than these, tests pass fine.
* [svn-r14830] Purpose: Update libtool to version 2.2.2Mike McGreevy2008-04-111-60/+84
| | | | | | | | | | | Description: Changing libtool from 2.2 to 2.2.2. The newer version was released last week and I missed the announcement before upgrading to 2.2 yesterday afternoon. The new version is installed in home1/packages/libtool/, and the bin/reconfigure script was updated and executed. Tested: h5committest (smirom, linew, kagiso)

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | libtool 2.2 Description: Updated bin/reconfigure script to reflect the new versions of libtool and automake in the /home1/packages/ directory. Rearranged configure.in script. For some reason, when using libtool 2.2, the libtool script doesn't generate until later in the configuration process, so I had to move a test that parsed through the libtool script to a point after where it was actually being generated. Ran libtoolize on the project, and ran bin/reconfigure to regenerate configure and Makefile.in's throughout. Tested: kagiso, smirom, linew, tg-login

| | | | | | | | | | | The version of libtool used by HDF5 isn't directly affected by the reconfigure script; instead, libtoolize --force must be used by hand. Libtool was the source of the problem, so rolling its version back to 1.5.14 should solve the issue (at least temporarily). Reconfigure should still work on both heping and kagiso. Tested on heping, kagiso, and tg-login3.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Automake version upgrade Description: Upgraded automake version from 1.6.2 to 1.9.5. Changed bin/reconfigure script to use automake 1.9.5. Changed configure.in and Makefiles to use new FCFLAGS and FC variables instead of FFLAGS and F9X. Automake and configure should now do the lion's share of the work supporting Fortran 9X; macros in acsite.m4 are now mostly unused (will be cleaned later). Altered how configure handles pmake; now root-level Makefile.in is processed by bin/reconfigure to have a .MAKEFLAGS target, since automake no longer allows us to define unused variables. Configure now always checks for C++ compiler even if it is not used, since automake thinks this is the Right Thing To Do and will break otherwise. Platforms tested: Sol, copper, heping, mir, sleipnir, eirene, pommier, kelgia, modi4.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Configure feature Description: Changed bin/reconfigure.sh script to use autotools in AFS. Solution: Previously, the only machine with the correct versions of autoconf and automake was heping. Now both tools are installed in AFS, so in theory any hdf machine can be used to run the reconfigure script. Platforms tested: heping, eirene, verbena. On sleipnir and arabica the autotools were unable to find a version of m4 that was new enough for them. Misc. update:

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Bug fix Description: Found the permanant fix to automake/CVS dependency problem Solution: Added AM_MAINTAINER_MODE macro to configure.in. Now automake will never try to regenerate Makefiles, Makefiles.in, configure, H5config.h, etc. when they are out of date, nor will it print any warnings. Developers should be very very careful to use reconfigure script, and can add --enable-maintainer-mode flag to configure on heping to regenerate these files correctly. Platforms tested: heping sleipnir copper

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Bug fix. Description: There was a bug fix for AIX machine when Poe is used to launch programs, that is in parallel mode. The fix is hostname dependent. Solution: Removed the hostname dependence and let the fix apply to all AIX machines. But put in a safety net--if $HDF5_AIX_NOPATCH is set to non-null, it will not use the fix but use the original code. (Don't expect this being used.) Platforms tested: Tested in Copper both with and without $HDF5_AIX_NOPATCH set. Did not run h5committest since this really applies to AIX systems only. Misc. update:

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | bug fix Description: Parallel binary generated in copper could not run without first setting LIBPATH to some values. This is because libtool putting a very restrictive libray path into the generated library. Solution: There had been hack in before for the other IBM SP systems identified by hostname. Add copper to the list. Also, narrow down the hostname patter for Nersc Seaborg machine a little bit. Platforms tested: Copper parallel only since that is the only place it failed. Misc. update:

Folding them in here. aclocal.m4: Snow's names were not included in the special hack. Added its names in. Removed the trailing * in pacific.llnl.gov too. configure.in: fortran/configure.in: Added a case to group all AIX 5.* versions as aix5.x. This allows them to share one common config/*aix5.x file. configure: fortran/configure: Derived from configure.in (done in eirene). config/powerpc-ibm-aix4.x: Added a comment explaining why not to cache sizeof size_t and off_t fortran/config/powerpc-ibm-aix4.x: Turned of cache of sizeof size_t and off_t because they are depedent on compiler options. config/powerpc-ibm-aix5.x: fortran/config/powerpc-ibm-aix5.x: New config file for AIX 5.X Platforms tests: LLNL Blue, Frost, Snow, both serial and parallel.

* [svn-r1112] Changes since 19990301Robb Matzke1999-03-021-0/+259
---------------------- ./INSTALL Reorganized and added some additional examples. ./MANIFEST ./aclocal.m4 [NEW] ./configure.in ./configure [REGENERATED] ./src/H5config.h.in [REGENERATED] ./bin/ltconfig [NEW] ./bin/ltmain.sh [NEW] Added tests to determine how to compile shared libraries and how to link programs with them before the libraries are installed. Also how to install and uninstall shared libraries. The configure step also prints the names of the config files it's trying to load for easier debugging. ./bin/config.guess ./bin/config.sub Replaced with a newer version from GNU. The changes we made to that file to report `irix6.x' and `FreeBSD' without version numbers have been incorporated into configure.in instead. In the future, do not change these two files (see the top of configure.in instead). By the way, this update was required to get shared libraries working. ./config/linux [REMOVED] ./config/linux-gnulibc1 [NEW] ./config/linux-gnu [NEW] ./config/alpha-dec [REMOVED] ./config/alpha-dec-osf4.0 [REMOVED] ./config/dec-osf4.x [NEW] ./config/irix5.3 [REMOVED] ./config/irix5.x [NEW] ./config/irix64 [REMOVED] ./config/freebsd Moved config files around to agree with output from the new config.guess. The linux file was split into gnu (RedHat), gnulibc1, and gnulibc2 versions. The alpha-dec file was removed (I think it was unused) and the alpha-dec-osf4.0 was changed to dec-osf4.x. The irix5.3 file renamed to irix5.x and the irix64 file was renamed to irix6.x. The freebsd file was changed to point to linux-gnulibc1. These changes were tested on: Linux 2.0 Linux 2.1 FreeBSD 3.2 Irix 5.3 Irix64 6.2 Irix64 6.4 HP/UX 10.20 OSF1 4.0 ./config/alphaev56-dec-osf4.x ./config/irix64 Added warnings similar to linux/freebsd about using compilers with known bugs. ./config/commence.in ./config/conclude.in ./src/Makefile.in ./test/Makefile.in ./testpar/Makefile.in ./tools/Makefile.in Added definitions for shared libraries. This has been tested on the following systems: Linux 2.0 Linux 2.1 FreeBSD 3.2 Irix 5.3 Irix64 6.2 Irix64 6.4 HP/UX 10.20 static only OSF1 4.0 If you want to disable use of shared libraries (you probably do for development purposes since it takes a lot longer to compile and because you have to run dynamically linked programs in a special way if the library hasn't been installed) then add `--disable-shared' to the configure command line. This is all documented in the INSTALL file. ./bin/release Temprarily commented out the MANIFEST checking when running under svf since svf is about to be replaced by a newer version. This change only affects error checking during the release process. ./Makefile.dist ./Makefile.in Added `make check' which does the same thing as `make _test' since the former is endorsed by the GNU coding style and people are used to it. The old `make _test' still works too (and so does `make test' if you use GNU make).
