fread in windows needs a binary file to be open with "rb" instead of "r" otherwise it terminates execution if an end of file character is found on the input file. Besides that the binary file generated needs to be open with "wb" , otherwise an end of line character is read twice. DONE NOW for 1.8, already done previously for 1.6
renamed the h5import test files to have the extensions
text input files = .txt
binary input files = .bin
configuration files = .conf
hdf5 files = .h5
besides that in very test the files have the same name except extension.
For example
TOOLTEST txtin16.txt -c $srcdir/testfiles/txtin16.conf -o txtin16.h5
The convention for the test name is for example, for "txtin16"
"txt" for text then "in16" means integer 16 size

New feature: implementation of h5import conversion of an ASCII plain-text file containing text data
The string type H5T_C_S1 is used to define the data (the datum is defined here as one line of text in the text file). The size is set to variable length (H5T_VARIABLE)
The space used is a 1D array with as many elements as there are lines in the ASCII file (a line is defined by the inclusion of an end of line character, ASCII number 10). A first traversal of the input text file must be made to determine the number of lines in the file and thus the dimensionality of the dataset.
New test to the test script added
text input files and teststr.h5 for h5dump to compare added

Fix several bugs
1) the parsing of subsetting was using atoi to convert the parameter to an int, which caused problems for numbers greater that int. Substitute with atof
2) the printing of indices in the subsetting case was not being done. Solution: calculate the element position at the start of the subsetting using the algorythm
Given an index I(z,y,x) its position from the beginning of an array of sizes A(size_z, size_y,size_x) is given by
Position of I(z,y,x) = index_z * size_y * size_x
+ index_y * size_x
+ index_x
And pass that position to the function that dumps data, h5tools_dump_simple_data.
3) several index counters were declared as int, use hsize_t instead
4) modified the test generation program so that it includes test cases for subsetting of 1d, 2d, 3d, and 4d arrays and add these tests to the shell script

portable issue on windows
Description:
setvbuf on visual studio 2005 needs the size to be greater or equal to 2.
<description of setvbuf from msdn library>
Buffer size in bytes. Allowable range: 2 <= size <=
INT_MAX (2147483647). Internally, the value supplied
for size is rounded down to the nearest multiple of 2.
h5import used linebuffer option of setvbuf for stderr and stdout and the size is
0 by default. This causes core dump with visual 2005 on windows 64-bit.
Solution:
1. Use HDsetvbuf inside h5import.c,
2. Define HDsetvbuf inside windows H5pubconf.h for windows to work around
the core dump of h5import test. This is probably a bug inside visual studio 2005.

Code Improvement
Description:
Changed from passing a structure into a function by value into
passing it in by pointer. Noticed this while compiling with a highly
optimizing compiler which took >30 minutes to analyze the program
(granted, this is the compiler's fault, but in general, it's better
to pass large structures in by pointer and not by value).

Linux (specific to h5import, so only needed to test on one platform)

Purpose: Bug fix
Description: On HP11.00 and True64 systems strtoll function that is used
to read text to long integers is not available. Compilation
fails for h5import.c
Solution: Replace strtoll with HDstrtoll. HDstrtoll is a private HDF5 function
defined in H5private.h file, but this include file was already used
by h5import for some other reasons. It would be probably better
to choose strtol or strtoll functions at the configuration
time, but HDstrtoll provided really simple solution for now.
Platforms tested: arabica (to test that where it was working, it is still working),
kelgia (HP11.00) and PSC True64 machine.

Purpose: New tool
Description: Pankaj created h5import tool long time ago. I am finally checking
the source code in for the 1.6 release.
Known problems: h5import test will crash if srcdir option
is used; will be fixed before the release.
Solution:
Platforms tested: vebena, arabica, modi4 were tested. h5import tests passed
I also tested on arabica with srcdir option to make sure that
there is a problem when srcdir is used. After that I disabled
h5import tests. Daily tests will build h5import, but will not run
h5import tests.
